The little discount cards you get at the gorcery is what tips them off - if
you didn't get a discount card, they would have no way of obtaining your
address and name. That is exactly what those cards are designed to do -
allow companies to "target market" you. Everytime you use that card, your
purchases are tracked in a big database. The database is sold to marketing
firms all over the world and voila...they know who you are, they know what
you like to eat and watch on the VCR and read and clean your toilet with. In
exchange for all of this lovely info, you get a discount and the grocer
makes big bucks when the list is sold. 

And the ABM compianies just get sneakier!
