Often a mother will try a spouted "sippy cup" around the time solids are
added, often coinciding with teething. But I've known several cases,
(one being my own daughter) where this causes the baby to suddenly start
chomping down painfully during nursing. Once I got rid of that
hard-plastic spouted cup, which I realized was being gnawed ragged, she
eased up. It's always worth asking about this when older babies
suddenly change their nursing patterns.

Of course, covered cups are handy once the child is a bit older,
(mandatory, perhaps, in carpeted areas until he/she's in graduate
school...)
