A last-minute appeal.

I'm looking for references from the breastfeeding support literature. In New
Jersey we may have an opportunity to put a question about breastfeeding into a
survey which is administered widely to the general public. The question we
have proposed is

If you had a friend or family member who was pregnant, would you
1) encourage her to breastfeed?
2) encourage her to formula feed?
3) not sure

What we need now is evidence from previous research that this question (or a
similar one that gets at the same information) is valid. That is, will the
question accurately differentiate the people who have a positive attitude
towards breastfeeding from those who do not?

Of course we're working against a deadline (this afternoon---but it MIGHT be
stretched to first thing Monday morning). If you can point us toward a study
that used this question or one like it, please respond by telephone or fax to
Florence Rotondo at New Jersey WIC. Her phone is 609-292-9560 and her fax is
609-292-3580.

I won't be able to check my email until this evening, so it's most important
to reply to Florence. But if you want to email me ([log in to unmask]) I'd
love to know about your responses, too!
