Twasn't Pat Gima that said that. At least not recently. Before I read the
study that Jan Barger and ------ did on the safety of breastmilk up to 10
hours at moderate room temperatures, I used to advise chilling before
adding. But I no longer recommend this.

In understanding the antibacterial properties in breastmilk that continue
to kill any bacteria that appears, including from baby's mouth if she
didn't finish her milk, I suggest that the pump parts be washed about 3
times a day if mother is pumping a lot. And I don't recommend refrigeration
if she is going to give it to baby within 8 hours--of course depending on
the room temp.

When a mother is spending a lot of time pumping she is so relieved to know
that she doesn't have to rush the milk to the refrigerator, warm it at the
feeding, wash pump parts, etc. And she certainly doesn't have to be
sterilizing parts.

It's always good for this topic to come up for clarification. Some people
may not have heard of Jan's )and ---'s) study and Rachel Brusseau's study
about re-using breastmilk after baby has been drinking from a bottle.
