Reading this thread, a question occurred to me that may shed light on this
issue: 15-20 years ago, did speech therapists and feeding specialists mark
the window as 4 months, following the then-current recommendation on
introducing solids? Like many breastfeeding-related issues, this may be a
case of science working to confirm the status quo.

My own anecdotal experience: Baby #1 vigorously refused solids (I kept
trying intermittently to push them) until 10.5 months, when she cheerfully
fed herself. She never had feeding difficulties, but was diagnosed with a
tongue-thrust at age 10. Had some speech therapy for it for several months
until the specialist (who I was told was "the only one in town" who would
deal with tongue thrust) moved away; problem largely self-resolved with
encouragement to watch oral motions. I wondered whether my aggressiveness
in pushing solids, which she resisted with tongue thrust among other
reactions, contributed to her problem, though her father's family all have
some degree of speech issues. Babies 2 and 3 started solids at about 5
months (adjusted; 28-week preemie) and 7.5 months. No feeding difficulties.
All children have food allergies/sensitivities.
