I realized that I only know one woman who ended up exclusively breastfeeding
following reduction mammoplasty. It was her first baby, born after a
turbulent labor that ended in CS, and she had required hormonal stimulation
to conceive, AND she was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in early pregnancy,
which was inadequately treated until close to term.

We talked a little during the pregnancy about what to expect, and I loaned
her Diana West's fabulous book, which she devoured, and she had the help of
yours truly and Kathleen Bruce post partum, since Kathleen happened to be
visiting me when her baby was born. So, I did inform her, but mainly
because she was so clear that she wanted to breastfeed, and breastfeed
exclusively if possible. She supplemented for a very very short time with
minuscule amounts of formula in the first week, I believe. Her son probably
doesn't think milk tastes complete without the flavor of fenugreek! I
learned at least as much as she did from her experience, among other things
that you never know until the baby is born how it is going to turn out.
