I think one of the keys to successful cup-feeding may be to have confidence
in it.  Some years ago our LLL group had a Leader Applicant whose newborn
(3rd child) became rapidly ill w/ B strep after discharge.  By the time
they went back to the hospital, baby was too weak to nurse or bottle-feed.
Annegret, having heard our enthusiasm for this new idea, cup-fed her
daughter for the better part of a day.  The nurses were amazed, and told
her she must have a very special baby.  "Oh no," Annegret told them
blithely, "All babies can do this."

When she came home, we were almost as amazed as the nurses.  "You mean it
really works??" we asked her.  It was her turn to be amazed.  "You TOLD me
it did!"
