Those of you that are ILCA members may have gotten an ad in the mail
today from a well known bottle company that has a new manual and
electric breast pump. I wonder about the claims they are making in the
written ad they mailed to me.

It says two things that caught me eye that I question or wonder about.
1). "Unique ultra-soft honeycomb liner pulsates and massages the breast
to create Prolactin, insuring an increased milk supply and a healthier
baby." (comment: is the massage action what creates prolactin?) 2). "...
our revolutionary design uses pulsation (a unique massaging action) to
stimulate the breast and One-Way airflow to help prevent bacteria from
entering the breast and causing infections." (comment: I have never
heard that a breast pump causes air to enter the breast and cause an
infection but I have heard of how milk can get into the tubing and grow
bacteria and then circulate down into the milk.)

I just want to know if these are accurate statements. Thanks, Kathy Eng,
BSW, IBCLC
