Dear all, When I first started getting interested in the subject of
lactation, I was uncomfortable with a difference of opinion I sensed
among the "experts". Some seemed to claim that what the mother ATE made
no difference to her milk, but at the same time warned about various
drugs appearing in human milk. This didn't and doesn't seem to make sense
to me. Lately, I have become interested in another "difference of
opinion" about cow's milk allergy (CMA) and colic. Last year, I tried to
read up on the literature, and wasn't really satisfied. Left to my gut
feelings, I still think that after other obvious possibilities are ruled
out, that we should then look into possible CMA with colicky baby. Ped.
Clin. of N. Amer. had a good article on colic, but it didn't really
resolve it for me and I was left with the feeling that the authors did
NOT feel that colic was a "gut issue" (no, credit for this pun goes to
the authors, not me). I am very interested in colic, since in my area, it
is popular to blame breastmilk for EVERYTHING, so a baby with colic
usually gets weaned post-haste. Sigh. Judy K
