I second the concern about probiotics. This seems to be the new agressive marketing from formula manufacturers, the same way they marketed "DHA and ARA" in baby formula 10 years ago. I've had a few mothers asking if they should supplement with formula so the baby can get some probiotics. Yikes! I told them that about 1/3 of their colostrum is made up of pre and probiotics. There breastmilk is full of probiotics. The best way to achieve normal gut flora is to breastfeed and avoid unnecessary antibiotics. They are also wondering when they should begin giving the baby probiotics. I think not until after the child weans then only if they are on antibiotics. Just wondering what others thoughts are on that. Thank you.
