The mom I posted about a few days ago with a rash that started 4 days
postpartum and has been going on for 2 months, got in to see the
dermatologist yesterday. The dermatologist said immediately it was PUPP,
felt that it got worse with the prednisone probably by coincidence, and that
the family practice doc hadn't prescribed a high enough dose. The FP Dr. had
prescribed 20 mg/day for 6 days and then tapering. The dermatologist gave
her 50 mg/day for 20 days and then tapering. She feels that it's starting to
help already. She also wanted me to pass along that the topical cortisone
cream was not helpful for the itching, but that Caladryl lotion was
(calamine, Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 1%, camphor, and alcohol 2%). If this
doesn't turn out to be the answer I will post again--there are many rash
questions in the archives, but hardly any outcomes!
