Ah, Cian Sawyer just said it perfectly!!! Go back, read her post and insert
breastfeeding for the tummy sleeping regardless of how many studies show it
is better....and especially how for 'mom' needs. Cian, I am not being unkind
to you...you know me. I just want to say that while some thought this did
not compare, you just proved it certainly does. Just like every baby fed
formula does NOT grow up with every disease known to man, and breastmilk is NOT
magic fairy dust that cures all ills, it is also true that not all tummy
sleepers die of SIDS. Moms say can say: "I didn't breastfeed my first child, and he
is healthy and smart, so why bother with the next one?" OR "My first child
slept on his tummy, and he is here, so my second child can too". Same for "I
didn't sleep on my back, and I didn't die of SIDS" and "I didn't get
breastfed, and I am just fine." Statistics are there for SIDS, statistics are
there for breastfeeding. But, for both there are still those who make choices
not based on research, but on experience.

My theory is simple and the same many others have said: If maternal/infant
biology suggests cosleeping and night feeds as the norm, tummy sleeping in a
separate sleep space would not seem to be the 'natural' sleep of a baby.

Take care,
Pam MazzellaDiBosco, IBCLC, RLC Who did not breastfeed, and slept on my
tummy as a baby. Reasons my sister and my mother don't see why I bother....
