This kind of thing happens a lot. We were reviewing and rewriting policy on storage of milk. I showed the NICU Charge RN my copy of the latest HMBANA book and the relevant 2 or so pages with references. She asked to borrow it for the day so she could read the selections when she had a break. She returned it to me at end of day saying thanks and told me she copied the whole book! I told her that's a violation of copyright. That HMBANA is non-profit just like us and they rely on the income from this book. She said, it's okay (to make the copies) because it's "for educational purposes".
What? No! It's for writing policy. It was not used to teach anyone anything.
That's the last time I'll loan anything to anyone in mgmt. I show it and let them see it, but I tell them how much it costs and where to buy it. "Oh, but we don't have a budget for that." Okay, so ask me when you need the info and I'll bring the book in to work the next day. (That's because I don't have an office.)

=============
Copyright is one topic that can never be raised too often....

At the end of a very popular full day 's program on Ethics (obviously
including copyright), Participant A stood in front of the book display
talking to Participant B about using Linda Smith's Exam Review book in their
study group. B was invited to join the study group and asked if it was
necessary to buy a copy of said book to bring along = the response, oh no,
why don't I just lend you my copy and you can photocopy it when you're on
night shift. [This was not the outcome... ]

Another study group photocopied (on a government photocopier) about 20
copies of a recommended text (hundreds of pages) - the response was that
they had a photocopying budget but not one for purchasing the books. (This
is one I've heard quite a few times. )

I appreciated the free access to the new journal (which I could access in
full), but not all the pump ads, irrespective of Code Compliancy.
