HI Sonya,

The most common reason for poor gain is low intake (not feeding often enough, not transferring much milk, true low milk production) so these basic things should be looked at first, and I assume have been looked at already.

Poor weight gain would rarely be caused by the quality/fat content of mother's milk. There are some reports, however, in mother's who have malabsorption, most notably cases of bariatric surgery (like gastric bypass).

If there is nothing like that in mother's history, then support mom to continue bf in a very responsive way, to all infant cues, and even to offer the breast often if baby tends to not ask to eat often. I do believe that bodies/breasts that are functioning borderline can be improved by overall improved nutrition, which is to say eat whole foods/real foods and not empty type "junk" foods.
