Theresa mentions a study that looked at doctor and nurse recommendations of items seen in displays like we have been discussing,

<<The researchers found that these professionals said they were not influenced by the marketing techniques, that they evaluated the products independently and made their decisions based on evidence and rational thought. However, in practice that didn't turn out to be true. Those who had been exposed
to displays by company A were much more likely to recommend company A's products; those who attended the conference with company B products were likely to recommend those. They didn't believe they were influenced, yet clearly they were.>>

Just wondering if this could be because the professional felt they knew enough about the product after learning about it from this exposure to deem it safe to use. In other words, we have Ameda pumps and Medela pumps . Both are good pumps we don't mind recommending to moms who ask about them.
But, suppose you've only had hands-on experience with Ameda and none with Medela except what you've read. All things being equal, it wouldn't be surprising that you would recommend the Medela pump, because you have personal knowledge that it is a good pump. That doesn't mean you don't like the
other one. You just don't have any personal knowledge about it. That's why it's a good idea, IMHO, to learn about all these items. I don't think that study, as it was explained, necessarily showed what it was said to show. It would be different if both pumps were shown to a group of people, but
one of them gave out a dozen roses to each person (or a weekend getaway or something really nice!). Then, if more of the group recommended that pump, I might put more stock in those results.
