Well said, Jenni!
This is what I meant with my posting: let's speak up and let's stay in touch
with those companies that produce good products, instead of not working
together at all and lose our influence. We need to educate SO many people as
IBCLC's and that task, too, is in our Standard of Practice! Sitting in the
corner as angry toddlers (considering the young age of our profession...)
won't get us anywhere and neither will working out of anger and frustration.
It is hard enough to be constructive in what we contribute to the discussion
(or starting it in the first place!) but it is SO necessary. We'd better
work together. We are supposed to be working evidence based: that also
requires a scientific attitude, meaning we have to have an open mind and be
curious and inquisitive and proactive. Think of Mandela and Gandhi: they got
where they got by keeping their goals clear and putting their personal pride
aside. What did Gandhi say? The English asked: "Well, mister Gandhi, so you
expect us to just walk away and leave this country? hahaha" "Yes, indeed I
do", Gandhi replied, and indeed they did, in the long(er) run...! But he
kept interfering at their political tables and was listened to. Ofcourse,
this is all timeconsuming. Well... keeps us from roaming the streets and get
criminal... hahaha.

Kind regards,

Marianne Vanderveen,
Dutch volunteer and IBCLC 2008
