# After all, it's nothing to do with the breastmilk as such. It's to
do with delaying solids. So there is a window of opportunity on
solids, post six months, and prior 9 months. Miss the window, and you
increase risks! #

Personally I was wondering the facts that 42 % of the children in this
study had family history of allergy, and that mothers were encouraged
to exclusively breastfeed as long as they wanted to / as long as
nutritionally adequate. If mothers with allergic history themselves
(or their spouses) believed at that time, 20 years ago, that long
exclusive breastfeeding might protect their babies from allergy,
wouldn't they have tried to breastfeed exlusively as long as possible?
Just guessing that perhpas the children excl. breastfed for over 9
months were already (with their inherited allergy risk genes) more
likely to develop allergies/atopy no matter how long/short the period
of excl. breastfeeding.
