We have a "miracle" case at the hospital with a mom who almost died from
complications from eclampsia, had seizures, 2 strokes, and emergency
c-section, a cranial bleed, another surgery, then aspiration of gastric
contents during that! Her husband asked that we start pumping her breasts
as he knew she wanted to breastfeed. The NICU Dr. thought that was insane
since she was fighting for her life and not responsive. The other Dr.'s
were o.k. with the idea but didn't understand it - so we waited for a day
after the surgery. Well, when I went in the Mother was talking and
expressing that this is what she wanted to do! The staff truly is calling
this a miracle, because they did not expect much quality of life for her
even if she survived! She is getting lots of milk even with the first
pumping. The meds she is on are Cerebyx, Zosyn, Decadron, and Trandate. I
have been able to locate information on most from Dr. Hale's book and from
the Briggs book, but need more information on Cerebyx and Decadron - If
anyone can help me with this, please do as soon as possible. At this point
we are freezing the milk but the Neonatologist is waiting for more
information before using it. The baby is actually doing pretty well -
weighs a little over 4 lbs, and is off the vent now. Thanks in advance for
any help.
