I am hoping I can learn from all you wise men and women here. I
stumbled upon an incredible opportunity that I can't let slip through my
fingers.

I have been active in promoting breastfeeding, tho I'm not a
professional. I have offered my services to WIC and have gotten the run
around there. (they say they have no funding available to train me to be
a peer counselor and so on and so on.) I told them I'd do it for free
and pay for my own training, but they turned me down.

Well, today I was approached from the Early Head Start program. To
clarify things, my son is in the Early Intervention program and has
recently been enrolled in the early head start. His home visitor came
out today and we started talking about the other moms and kids in her
class. There are several teenage moms who are interested in
breastfeeding, but know nothing about it. They have asked at WIC and
have been told the basics but still want more info. SHe asked me if I'd
be willing to talk to the moms in a support group type setting once a
month or as needed. SHe said she has talked with them (she breastfed
her son) but they aren't "listening" to her. She thinks they may listen
to me because I am in a sense, one of them. I want to do this, but
don't know where to start......I would like any urls, advice, comments
or anything that may be helpful. I'm going to be talking with low
income moms and moms of children with medical concerns (the two main
qualifiers for the EHS program) pregnant moms too.

please email me privately if this isn't appropriate to lacnet....

Thank you
