Referred  to a pediatric GI specialist.  She told the mother to nurse less

sitting in the bowels too long.

Dear friends,
My first line of action in cases of any gastric distress in infants in their second half year is to go back to exclusive breastfeeding untill all is back to normal and than very carefully restart introduction of solids. I prefer  fingerfoods as solids, because in that way children do not get too much at once like in purees and semi-liquids and their tummies have an easier time getting used to digesting non-milk foods. Digesting non-milk food is an inborn capability but a learned skill, much like talking and waking. It takes time and practice. One doesn't practice running before walking.

Warmly,
Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL, MOM, moderator of a mom-forum on child-led weaning Gill Rapley style in southern Netherlands
