Thanks, Carla, for posting this:

<Perhaps Diane Wiessinger's article "How Long Should I Nurse?" (found
here
and many other pages, including Diane's neat new page which I can't find
right now) http://members.tripod.com/~bmsg/howlong.htm will strike a
resonating note.>

(I, too, have temporarily misfiled the url of her new website. I hope she
posts it, for there are more gems there.)

I noted this particular paper of Diane's seems to be an update of a
master I bought for our WIC site several years ago. I definitely like the
title change from "What if I want to Wean?" Diane is obviously paying
attention to her own advice about "being careful of our language"!

I find this article an answer to a prayer for moms whose culture has
never exposed them to or "turned them off to" the idea of "sustained"
breastfeeding. For years, I fantasized of someday writing a patient
brochure to fill this need, putting it off till I "got a round tuit".
Diane saved me the trouble.

And though there are many, many good articles on the site Carla posted, I
thought one of the neatest was by Andrea Eastman: "Obstetric Practices
and their Possible Effects on the Initiation and Duration of Lactation".

Congratulations to the Breastfeeding Mothers Support Group of Singapore
for maintaining this enlightening site for all of us to refer to for
printing off instruction sheets!

Jean
