Hi folks. I'm coming out of lurkedom again to ask a question/favor. I got a
call recently asking me to present at a CEU (continuing education units)
workshop for nurses. It's a half-day conference with 4 break-out sessions,
each one hour long. Nurses will be from all backgrounds and settings and are
mainly from small towns and rural areas. (I did one last fall on domestic
violence and about 25 nurses came to my session. There were about 100 at the
whole thing). The nurses come so they can get CEUs required for maintaining
state licensure and not have to drive 90 miles to the big city to get them
(not because they are looking for professional develpment in a certain area of
interest). I have lots of experience speaking on a wide range of women's
health issues, but this year is my first year to do public speaking on
breastfeeding (just passed the exam in July). I'm feeling a little
overwhelmed by how much there is to tell the world about the subject. Plus, I
really need to develop my tolerance level for resistors of the truth.

I agreed to do it. Now I'm trying to put the presentation together and I'm
thinking, "There's no way I can cover anything in ONE HOUR! The name of the
presentation,(which I had to submit before I had prepared the presentation so
the flyer could go out) is "Infant Feeding: Nursing Care in the Prevention of
Childhood Ilness". I thought I'd leave "Breastfeeding" out of the title so I
would draw some ABM fanatics and we could generate some lively discussion
about the risks of infant formula and evidence-based practice.

I could use any advice you may want to share (or outlines or overheads!) about
what to include in such a short time period. We could go all day on just this
subject and still not cover it all. Also, can someone tell me where I can get
a copy of the Healthy People 2000 goals (75% bf, etc.). Thanks very much.
