Dear lactnetters,
First time for me to join...I have been a long time lurker. I am an in-hospital LC with a patient who had a pp hemorrhage (starting in the OR) requiring 7units PRBCs and a 3 day ICU stay with chest tube after her C/S. Ugly situation. She is now returned to our unit and is currently on multiple meds most of which rate from Dr. Hale as L2-L3 meds. I know that with this kind of bleed and the addition of meds like Lasix that we have our work cut out for us to establish breastfeeding, if we can at all. My question though, concerns methergine. Hale rates it as an L2 for the first week and then L4. I can't find exactly why this is. Can anyone help? So far only skin to skin time (due to mom's condition) but today plan to try a little time at the breast. Mom's pumping but only drops so far.
Thanks for all you've taught me so far...with so far to go!
