Nancy Wight wrote wrote that it is protein not calories that are most needed
by the premie. How do we know that? Does the mother's milk compensate in any
way by producing nutrients that are specific to the premie's need? Have any
studies looked at the compostition of premie's mother's milk?

I have a vague recollection of an article in Pacific Health Dialogue that
looked at Votamin A in the milk of premie mothers and found that the levels
were much higher than in the milk of term babies. Have other studies on
other nutrients been done? have any long term studies compared premies who
recieve mother's milk to premies who recieve mother's milk with supplements?

Warmly,

Lisa Boisvert Mackenzie
