For some moms, I think they are not ready for an in-person consult and may prefer to watch something (like an avatar) in the privacy of their home.  I know I did not even consider calling my LLL leader or my midwife when I was having breastfeeding problems because I didn't want to bother them and I didn't know what to ask.  I had gone to the classes, read the books, so I should know how, right?  

I would have preferred an avatar over a live human just because of embarrassment.  I am also the type of person who likes to figure it out for myself. I would not have gone to a stranger for lactation help unless I was very desperate.  

 I don't think that such a thing can replace a lactation consultant, but I think that moms today learn differently and have a higher level of comfort with technology.  Breastfeeding is such an intimate act, that maybe using a non-intimate source can help to bridge the gap that moms feel with the "exposure" breastfeeding brings.
