Dr. Joan Younger Meek of the AAP was a guest for an entire segment on the
talk show "The View" this morning. The segment was on "Breastfeeding 101",
and she did an excellant job of packing a whole lot of information in a few
minutes. She had a doll and showed postitioning, discussed sore nipples,
demonstrated cabbage for engorgement, advised against supplementing, etc.

However, prior to the segment the ladies of "the View" discussed
breastfeeding, and it was quite heated. This is just the latest in an
ongoing debate, since one host (Elisabeth) is pregnant, while another host,
Star Jones is getting married. Star Jones made very negative statements
about breastfeeding recently, and has received many, many letters from
breastfeeding moms. So she felt "attacked" Journalist Barbara Walters
actually stated that "formula is just as good as breastfeeding" ( It was so
obvious that she was defending her life experience - apparently her daughter
is adopted). 2 of the hosts (Joy and Meredith) have breastfed, but really
only Joy tried to promote it. She was most successful in trying to get the
2 other hosts to "live in the moment" and not dismiss or pre-judge
breastfeeding before they had their baby.

(thinking it would be money well spent to pitch in for an LC for Elisabeth,
because if she fell in love with breastfeeding - that could buy a lot of
good PR for breastfeeding).
