Arnica is used to help with bruising. Can cause gastroenteritis if taken orally in large doses. I have used it externally for bruising. Traumeel is glucosamine, chondroitin and Hylauronic acid. Used for alternative treatment of arthritis. IT is normal for babies to be gassy around three days when milk surge is starting.

Subject: Herbal Arnica and Breastfeeding

Hello Lactnetters!

This is my first time posting. I'm a CLE in Los Angeles. PTP

I have a mom, who is also a friend, who is recovering from a cesarean birth. Babe is 3 days old. Mom reports milk has increased today. She is taking Arnica by mouth 3 x daily to help with heeling of the incision. She also has traumeel, which she may take in place of Arnica. She has noticed the baby needing to burp a lot and quite gassy.

My question to all you wise ones is this: Has anyone had experience with moms taking these particular herbs? What are the known affects to the baby and supply?

Thanks in advance!

Cathy
