Christine asks for recent accounts of mothers using this immunosuppressant
while breastfeeding. I have had experience with one mother with chronic
glomerulonephritis who was on maintenance level doses of cyclosporin. This
was a lower dose than that used by transplantees. She breastfed her baby
uneventfully for the better part of a year, I believe. As far as I know
there have been no problems and the child is now two years old.
We found info about it on a website here for independently gathered drug
info (as opposed to info supplied by manufacturers). It's all in Norwegian
but seems to be take much of its source information from English language
sources. In this case I believe the info was gathered from Swedish renal
transplantees who had breastfed successfully and without apparent harm to
their children from the cyclosporin.
