Don't think that for this particular baby it necessarily is a problem,
but, the study Lawrence quotes was a small sample of moderately
well-controlled women (Hb1AC was 8.1 +-0.6%). Since glucose is highly
water soluble, it could be more of an issue with a poorly controlled
diabetic whose baby possibly receives milk with increased glucose
content 'all the time'.
I will try to dig up some of the references of the article I quoted to
see what the statement was based on. Will let you know if I come across
anything useful.

And yes, I agree that more research in this area is needed, especially
since prevalence of type II diabetes is becoming increasingly common in
young adults and adolescents, meaning that we can expect to see an
increase in breastfeeding mothers with diabetes!
