Kathy – I did not mean to negate all the good you have done in the “past 13 years” but I do not understand what breastfeeding medicine is.  Yes, you have practiced medicine as an MD and you have helped babies who were having trouble breastfeeding, as well as their mothers.  However, I do not combine the two to equal breastfeeding medicine.  There was always an appreciation for the good you and physicians on the ABM Board were doing.

As for the ABM mastitis protocol, Jennifer’s concern was regarding the omission of TT as a contributing factor as well as gut integrity; I don’t think she went into conservative management.

If there is not [no?] such thing as breastfeeding medicine, I wonder what I have been doing for the past 13 years!?!

 

Seriously, I am the first to admit it should not NEED to exist, but for now, it does.

 

As for the mastitis protocol, I had nothing to do with it, but feel compelled to point out that in fact it says “If symptoms of mastitis are mild and have been present for less than 24 hours, conservative management (effective milk removal and supportive measures) may be sufficient.”  Supportive measures are described in an earlier paragraph.
