Interesting thread... IMHO, on thing that too much interfering can cause
problems with is the woman that has been dealing with issues that you have no
idea about, and every time she goes out and people see her feeding her child,
she gets some kind of comment. I have encountered many women that are
extremely anti-breastfeeding simply because of this type of thing happening.
They are kind of cutting off their child's nose to spite... but the fact of the
matter remains that they are very angry and hurt by other people interfering.
Then, there are the women that are feeding pumped bmilk, to their child in
public, for whatever reason, and they get comments about the fact that bmilk is
so much better and that they should be bfeeding and so on. These women are
going to great lengths to feed their child in the best manner they can, and
still get comments as if they were feeding their child less than the best. I
realise that this is a little off of the actual subject, but this has been
something that I have seen a lot of women very angry about, so if one chooses
to "interfere" then it should be done as carefully as possible and with as much
tact and as little feeling as possible.
Another thing that, I think, helps, especially newer moms who are bfeeding is
to give them a positive, just a short comment on how wonderful what they are
doing is for their child, I venture to say that we all well know the many
negatives that a mom can get from friends and family over bfeeding.
