I'd be very interested if anyone has thought through any good ways to
get
women to take more responsiblity for their own education about all
aspects
of reproductive health care, as well as their feeding choice.
--------------------------------------------------

How do we teach our kids responsibility? We offer them choices,
starting with little choices like which shirt to wear today and moving
up to big choices, like which college to go to or which career to
pursue. We teach our kids to live with the consequences of their
choices incrementally too.
Can we do similarly with our patients and clients? Can we offer them
choices, letting them know our understanding of the pros and cons of
each choice and then have them decide for themselves. It could start
with a simple blood test and work up to more complicated decisions.
Ultimately, we all have to live with the consequences of our choices,
but teaching people critical thinking, making choices and follow
through is hard work, harder for adults who haven't been taught those
basic skills in school and home.
A challenge for all of us.
