I have a few refs Liz but they are scanty.

Brandt, Andrews, Claire, Kvale (1998). Mother-Infant interaction and
breastfeeding outcome 6 weeks after birth. JOGNN 27: 169-174
"Dyads who would still be breastfeeding a 6 weeks postpartum were far more
likely to interact positively, showing more behaviours consistent with
attachment and contigency. Dyads who would terminate breastfeeding in the
following 6 weeks showed fewer behavious consistent with attachment"

Buranasin (1991). The effects of rooming in on the success of breastfeeding
an dthe decline in abandonment of children. Asia Pacific Journal of Public
Health 5: 217-220.
"Promotion and management of rooming in significantly improves the success
of breastfeeding and reduction of deserted children in the hospital"

Fergusson, Woodward (1999). Breastfeeding and later psychosocial adjustment.
Paediatric and Perinatal Epidemiology 13: 144-157.
"There was evidence to support the conclusion that breastfeeding may lead to
increased parental attachment and maternal bonding. Specifically there were
statistically significant associations in which increasing duration of
breastfeeding was associated with increasing levels of parental attachment,
increasing perceived maternal care and declining maternal overprotection. In
general breastfed children tended to repor more positive relationships with
their parents than bottle fed children"

Refs that may be used to support

Uvnas-Moberg (1998). Oxytocin may mediate the benefits of positive social
interaction adn emotions. Psychneuroendocrinology 23: 819-835.
"Oxytocin may be involved in physiological and behavioural effects induced
by social interaction in a more general context"

Polan, Ward (1994). Role of the mother's touch in failure to thrive. J of
the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry 33: 1098-1104.

Feldman, Weller, Leckman, Kuint (1999). The nature of the mother's tie to
her infant: maternal bonding under conditions of proximity, separation and
potential loss. J of Child Psychology and Psychiatry 40: 929-939.
"Attachment behaviours and representations were the highest among mothers of
term infants and declined linearly with the duration of mother-infant
separation"

This I only have an abstracts so I can't tell you how much of use there is
in it but it sounds good

Thombre (1987) Attachment and feeding methods. Journal of the American
Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry 26: 596?

I also have heard that Bion (1957) Learning from Experience. London,
Heinemann has useful information and Levy (1958). Behavioural analysis:
analysis of clinical observations of behaviour as applied to mother-infant
relationships. Charles C Thomas, Springfield Ill. have useful information.

I'd be interested to hear of any other references on this subject also.
