This is an interesting topic. I would really be interested in any references
that can be found to support this idea.

I spent 17 weeks on complete bed rest with my last pregnancy - no sitting at
all much less in a rocking chair - and did not notice any difference in the
babies (twins) compared to the babies from my other two pregnancies where I
was not on bed rest and was extremely active. However, a case study of one
proves nothing.

Thanks
Joan

Catherine Watson Genna commented:
" I wonder if mom's movement as she goes about her life helps the fetus
develop kinesthesia (where is my body in space), proprioception (how are
my muscles stretched), and sensory integration (how does this all go
together)... "

and

Dalia Abrams said " I've heard this too ... and remember also being told
that spending time in a rocking chair can help with this while you're on bed
rest. I would be suprised if this type of sensory deprivation (bed rest)
didn't affect the development of the fetus."
