Becky,

Living in Minnesota we are faced with the same scenarios. I called an
insurance company last year to see if we could keep a mom and baby for another
24 hours because the baby was not feeding. I was told no and if we were that
concerned about the baby's inability to feed they would pay for in-home IV
therary!!!!

If there are any orthopedic nurses out there no offense but the woman I spoke
to  had an orthopedic background but triaged for OB for this insurance
company.
