I wrote to Dr. Flohr at Texas Woman's University, the music professor whose
work has suggested that classical music is good for children's brain
development, and alerted him to the controversy over Mead Johnson teaming up
with NARAS (music folks) to put classical music CDs in their hospital
discharge bags, along with samples of formula. I asked him if he was aware
of the irony of this situation (make them dumb with formula, make them smart
with music), and if he felt so moved, to try to do something about it. He
wrote back a nice note saying he was not aware of the issues, and was upset,
as his children were breastfed and tried to always eat a very healthy diet.
He also said his sister is a doctor. And he said he would start making some
inquiries. I suggested that NARAS find another co-sponsor other than Mead
Johnson, and that they give the free CDs to all mothers, not just those who
 were formula-feeding.
