Barbara Wilson Clay's post on the 36 weeker is right on. I have had terrific
success with the same 3 approaches: feed the baby, protect the milk supply,
and keep someting gong at the breast even if it is" recreational" latching.
These moms and babies often go on for some long term breastfeeding. I often
have a new mom in this situation call (with permission) a mother who has
gone through the same situation. This has been helpful for the new mom to
see the light at the end of the tunnel. The mothers who I have asked to be
called have expressed pride that I consider them as good examples. Both moms
benefit. And I agree with the positive sugestive approach and I reallly do
find these little babies are terific feeders, IF they have been kept well
fed and the supply is well protected. Getting to a baby's due date and a
llittle beyond is helpful too. Ann Anderson, RN,IBCLC New Jersey
