Hello,

I have been working with a mom whose infant is now just over 4 weeks old.
The infant began vomiting large amounts of breastmilk after feedings, and I
had her begin pumping her foremilk prior to putting her infant on the breast.
Ever since she began doing this, the vomiting has stopped, but her infant's
stools have become extremely loose, green and have mucous in them. This has
been going on for 4 days now.

Now, I would think that this would be the last thing I would see happen when
pumping foremilk first. This mom has also had baby tested for pyloric stenosis,
which was negative, so the ped is assuming infant had issues with reflux. Mom
does not consume dairy products, is not taking any vitamins or stool
softeners. She is nursing 2-3 feedings in a row on the same breast, and
pumping the other side for comfort to help down regulate her oversupply.
Please help me figure out what could be going on here. Would baby benefit
from acidophilus or pacreatic enzymes?

Thanks,
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
