I sent Rob my Siamese story privately- Siamese have a
reputation for nursing longer and we had that happen.

But to add to the flaming discussion (sorry Kathy,
that you were flamed by the horse people), my mother
mentioned her neighbors catlets still nursing- kittens
are about 5 mos I think. Then she went on to talk
about a cat, Midnight who nursed a male cat whom she
had moved in with when he was the age at which most
kittens leave their mothers. Midnight had a litter a
couple years prior, but my brother hadn't formally
adopted her yet, so she wasn't spayed initially.
Midnight continued to nurse the male cat for a year or
two, until she disappeared when a neighbor moved.

Ok, not too unusual probably, but the unusual part is
that my mother has historically hated to talk about
human breastfeeding. I have a sister who formula fed
from birth, and my mother defended her "choice" and
wouldnt' discuss it. (and guess what I was fed?)

I wish somehow I could segue "cute" animals nursing
into advocacy more often.
