I've like this thread as that's sometimes my weakness--conveying good bf
information to people, whether laypeople or hcp's, without making them feel
like idiots.

Perhaps you could point out that lactation really is a specialty, and while
her physician might be right on the "cutting edge" of most things relating
to patient care, he/she may not be up on the very latest in the lactation
field.  Most professionals I know, those worth their salt, anyway, aren't
afraid to ask for help when they know they're not knowledgeable about a
certain health issue.  It would be absurd for them not to and most of them
know it.  A patient shouldn't lose confidence in his/her doctor if they
seek additional help or information.  If the patient herself is able to
identify a viable source of this information, the doctor should be able to
accept it non-judgementally.  That empowers the patient.
