With my adoption physician hat on, I can attest that using cups for 
prolonged periods of time can be detrimental for child's health and 
child's development.
Babies who were given bottles with nipples with huge holes or those who 
were switched to cups too early, do tend to have more oral aversions, 
speech delays as well as other sensory and/or mechanical problems.

And in Pamela's case - those kids should be evaluated for the 
possibility of residual problems, as in such situation there can be some 
other issues present too.
