LuAnn, it is definitely more important to look at the BIG picture and not at
the contents of mom's milk!
Having recently worked with a FTT case, the underlining problem was a
metabolic disorder and there was too much wasted time spent on trying to supplement
this child.
I encourage you to push for more testing and helping the mother to keep up
her milk supply.
How often does this baby nurse? Have there been test weights? How does the
baby appear over all? Are there any other problems besides the FTT?
A possible way to approach this doctor is to point out that this mother
breastfeed her other 2 children without a problem. It is not her body that is
suddenly changing for this baby.
With this doctor putting the time and energy in analyzing mom's milk time is
lost on finding the real problem.
I get frustrated when the emphasis is only weight gain, yet this is just a
small piece of the bigger picture.
