Help!!! I am going to meet a mother of a 10 week old, tomorrow afternoon.
She has given me permission to ask for your, collective, help. She has been
having intense back pain which goes into her breasts. This started at about 2
weeks postpartum. About two weeks ago she stopped nursing and started
expressing and giving the EBM via bottle because of this pain. She describes
it as a tight band around her chest with an area in the center of her back
that is the most intense pain.
This pain starts after she breastfeeds. It does not occure after pumping.
My first thought was positioning and the weight of the baby. My suggestion to
her was to either use pillows to support him or ly down while she nurses and
to try taking tylanol prior to the feeding.
She really wants to breastfeed but feels she can't continue if the pain keeps
up.
I'm not going to her home until around 5pm, 8/1/97, AZ time so if you have
any suggestions please E mail me. TIA
