I think you put this nicely, Leslie. I too am "grossed out" by
bottle-feeding(as my 8 yr old daughter sd. today, It doesn't seem right
to think of a newborn drinking from a bottle . Hey, generally speaking,
it ISN'T right! She had just asked me how soon after her birth she had
nursed)
However, I agree that while we need to inform moms of the benefits of
BFing, and offer encouragement and support, we need to let moms make
their own choice. Hopefully, it is an informed choice- here we can make
a difference by making sure that they have good info. on BF and
knowledge of the help that is available. But, we can't (unfortunately )
force anyone to BF.
I feel that if a mom is pumping and giving it to the baby in a bottle,
for one scenario, at least that is better than ABM, and I should support
the mom in that. Can't be too judgemental.WE all have our reasons for
what we do in various areas of life, and our reasons may or may not seem
reasonable to others, but we have to respect people's choices- doesn't
mean we have to approve of them, and we may personally feel that they
are bad choices.

I think our modern society is a big culprit in people's beliefs and
attitudes about BF. Most moms really feel they are doing the best for
their babies, isn't it sad that so many of them feel that ABM in a
bottle is the best thing?
