Hi Katrina,

The multiple factors involved in induced lactation where there are
infertility issues are sometimes very complicated. The emotional roller
coaster that many of these moms (moms-to-be) are on is incredible. I've
worked with probably two dozen adoptive moms in the past couple of years and
a few more prior to that. It has been my experience that until the papers
are signed and baby leaves the hospital with mom does she dare allow herself
the luxury of "letting go" and investing the emotional energy into what she
now feels is her baby.
I've seen many mothers not be able to get more than drops of milk while
pumping religiously go to a nearly complete milk supply once there is a
tangible baby to receive her milk. It's as if she's been holding back
because this, too, may not work. This is an extremely simplified scenario,
but it explains the gist of why some moms just don't get past the drops stage
until the baby arrives. The whole process of what we as women are capable of
doing just fills me with awe. We are so complex and capable - it is truly
mind boggling!

My 2cc worth...
