It seems to me that our rules about NPO prior to surgery are based on what
we know about food or artificial milk in general, and not human milk
specifically.

We've had some good discussion on this topic--some great common sense and
much about our current good and bad practices, but no research to back up
whatever it is that we recommend or don't recommend.

Is anyone aware of any well-controlled research to substantiate the
recommendation to be NPO for 1 hour before for breastfed babies? I might be
ignorant, but I'm aware of none.
