I keep wondering why we all don't hit a little harder with the hazards of
infant formula info, so that our "fanaticism" about not giving it to bf
babies has a rationale. Honestly, after our last inservice, I am completely
convinced that EVERYONE considers it as harmless as air, so what's the big
deal--we'll get baby to breast when we have a chance. They really don't
know what they are potentially doing to that baby in many ways, not just the
old nipple confusion issue. Plus, most of our nurses are older, have been
here a long time, and come from a B&B era, so they think it worked for them,
what's all the fuss?

We really have to analyze root causes of the continuous brick walls we hit
our heads against daily, and address the underlying issues. Personally,
just because I say something is helpful or not, the staff are not falling
all over saying thanks for the advice, I needed that, I have seen the light!
Obviously, there are obstacles that may be subtle, or obvious such as
anti-BF practices, but I feel like I need more credibility for starters.
Are we the subject matter experts or not?

Guess this tirade is more about hospital practices than what to do with a
baby who can't suck.

I am still searching for answers and find many on Lactnet.
