Formula lowers Bilirubins faster, even given equals volumes because of the
excess  B-glucuronidase in the newbon's intestine (10X adult levels) and in
human milk, which deconjugates conjugated bilirubin in the intestine and
allows it to be absorbed again into the bloodstream (enterohepatic
circulation).  As a matter of fact, elemental formulas such as Nutramigen
seem to decrease bilirubin much faster than regular formulas.  (ref- Gourley
