Thanks for pointing this out Phyllis!

I remember being clued into the *bucket baby* phenomenon by an older  
wiser ER LPN...
I was a second time mom but still young and impressionable...

She praised me for holding my baby all the time and not using *that  
damn bucket* as she called it...

She said the babies in the ER cried a lot more than babies in the  
past- not because
the current ER babies were sicker than the babies of the past
but because the babies weren't being held they were left in the  
bucket!!!

I did not own a bucket style car seat at that time but her praise and  
insight made such an impression on me
that when I did get a bucket car seat with the next baby I also got a  
sling and for the most part just left the bucket in the car...
Her comment stayed in the forefront of my mind through 4 more babies...

Her example also taught me how a little praise can go a long long way  
in influencing what mothers do...
