Hello, friends...

Permission to post -- my fellow IBCLC and I have been consulted about an 8-day post partum, formula feeding mother who developed a breast abcess prior to delivery. An incision and drainage was done today with placement of a wound vac to the 10cm x 10cm x 2 cm wound (not by the nipple or areolar tissue, by report). Breast milk was noted in the wound vac upon placement. Any thoughts on if this mom should pump to relieve pressure around the drained area as it heals, knowing she can take steps to wean that breast after her recovery... or should she be given meds to help dry up her milk at this time?

Thanks in advance to all of you for your advice...
